‘PURA Vision’ to debut at monterey car week

Automobili Pininfarina debuts the car concept of its electric luxury vehicle, or e-LUV, PURA Vision ahead of its Monterey Car Week premiere in August 2023. Its low hood and high fenders are inspired by the classic 1947 Cisitalia 202 – the first vehicle to enter the Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMA) collection in New York – and the car design of its panoramic glass roof views the outside from the inside and vice-versa, giving the sense of extended space.

At the center of this glasshouse roof, an LED ring light illuminates and links the expansive windscreen at the front with the tailgate at the rear. The doors share the limelight with the panoramic glass roof. Its hinge system means they open upwards, making the electric luxury vehicle look as if it were about to fly. Coupled with the pillarless opening and rear-hinged back doors, PURA Vision provides unrestricted access to spacious 2+2 seating.

Automobili Pininfarina states that the dubbed Lounge Doors were inspired by the pillarless design of the Lancia Florida saloon, which was penned by Battista Farina in the Fifties and was a favorite of Pininfarina’s founder. An anodized aluminum beltline surrounds the glasshouse roof too, and the roofline is underscored by an aluminum element on each side. Instead of door mirrors, PURA Vision incorporates rear-facing cameras at the front.

automobili pininfarina is also inspired by sailing yacht design

Looking at the rear of Automobili Pininfarina’s PURA Vision, ultra-slim horizontal LED lights highlight the electric luxury vehicle’s haunches, where its vertical body, a typical design of sports cars, rises and bends smoothly. In combination with its ‘biscotto’ roof, it creates a distinctive appearance when viewed from above, just like the Battista hyper GT. Lower down, the technical appearance of the exposed carbon fiber bumper echoes the front end and contrasts with the pure surfaces and sculptural forms of the upper body.

Automobili Pininfarina says that the design of luxury sailing yachts influences PURA Vision, given the upper body of the exterior that also flows into the interior. The ‘floating’ front seats are suspended like the foil of a sailing craft, while the center console resembles the boom of a sail, and the technology-driven cabin anchors an intuitive central touchscreen, advanced digital instrumentation, and a head-up display that the driver can personalize.

Electric luxury vehicle ‘pura vision’ marks a new beginning

Continuing the visual design of the interior, the center display rises from the console when needed but can be stored to avoid distractions, while speakers in the headrests give distinct sound zones for each person, providing a completely bespoke traveling experience. The huge glass area connects all passengers to their surroundings, and an integrated wine cooler between the pair of rear seats ensures occupants enjoy modern luxury in every sense. Each of the four individual seats features a crisp white finish, while charcoal leather on the dashboard and door tops provides a continuous 360-degree accent band around the interior.

Throughout, soft semi-aniline leather is combined with a distinctive textile fabric, while exposed carbon fiber and anodized aluminum match the outside finishes. The new car design concept of PURA Vision aims to inspire the next generation of Automobili Pininfarina’s pure electric luxury vehicles after its public debut at Monterey Car Week in August. During the event, the car company will showcase its recently-unveiled Battista Edizione Nino Farina hyper GT and another new production vehicle with an equally exquisite, yet distinct proposition.
