Tosh transforms a 40-year-old Apartment into an Art Studio

Interior design firm – tosh takes over Project Prahaa transforming a 40-year-old apartment into a 900 sqft art gallery and personal studio for artist Prachi Shah. Mixed media artist Prachi Shah based in Vadodara, Gujarat, names the studio Prahaa, which means prefix or what comes first in Sanskrit.

Situated in the tranquil Alkapuri neighborhood overlooking Champa trees and serene streets in Vadodara, India, the space seamlessly combines the functions of an art gallery and a personal studio for the artist. The transformation incorporates design elements that evoke a Mediterranean aesthetic, featuring hand-plastered walls, vintage switchboards, brass screws, and terracotta flooring.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted with a quote by Georgia O’Keeffe engraved on the entrance door, setting the tone for the artistic ambiance. The exhibit space, adorned with striking French door details, provides a canvas-like environment for the displayed artworks. The design includes intentional tall windows that offer views of Champa blossoms and a reading nook, creating an immersive experience.

Prachi Shah’s Workspace is immersed in vivid colors and patterns

The artist’s workspace, an open plan with tall windows, captures the essence of the Mediterranean oasis. The central workstation features an 8’6 x 4′ marble sculpture made from Indian Granite, serving as both a display and working area for the artist. The dining area complements the Mediterranean vibe with woven jute chairs and a terracotta lamp overhanging a micro-concrete tabletop.

The walls incorporate a unique design frame for showcasing artworks, utilizing wall-mounted easels that provide flexibility for mounting canvases and portraits of varying sizes. The easels serve a dual purpose, functioning as both a display and a working station where the artist can work directly on the upright canvas.

Further into the space, a multi-purpose room for craftwork and display is furnished with soft board panels and a discussion table. The attached powder room maintains the terracotta and brass detailing found throughout the studio. Interior design studio tosh thoughtfully designs the space providing the ideal environment for conceptual thinking, reflection, and artistic creation for Prachi Shah.
